Hey! I’m Kevin Saldivar and here is my story
Exactly 11 years ago I was an 11 year old with curiosity in the kitchen, my mom had a Easter cake mix box in the pantry and cupcake liners which she’d never used, I decided to follow the instructions and carefully bake the cupcakes. They surprisingly turned out. I was in Boy Scouts at the time and I was learning about being a good salesperson, after tasting my creation my mind exploded with thoughts, but only one really caught my attention which was starting a business where I could make money and also fundraise for my camping trips, and so it happened. I would get all of my sales from my soccer games, yes it was odd,
I was awkward and timid but I was getting the job done. Just imagine me pulling around a cooler full of cupcakes, around the whole soccer field. As the years went by I gained more knowledge and skills. There was a time where I was loosing interest, as I didn’t know how to expand and gain more knowledge as a teenager is this industry. Later on, I opened my social media platforms and slowly started moving forward with new ideas and motivation. It was March of 2020 I was not only celebrating 7 years of my cupcake business but also I had obtain the highest rank in Scouting, Eagle Scout.
There was a whole new spark in me, I had goals to accomplish and unfortunately the unimaginable happened, a pandemic, I was in complete shock, as a person who liked creating a perfect plan and executing it precisely it hit me harder than it expected, from going to my dream school to personal goals everything had gone down the drain. I graduated from High School, virtually and never walked across the stage(picture above from graduation day, June 2020 by Elissa Reynoso Flores). It was mid summer, I was still clueless, but I could feel part of that spark that I once felt earlier that year. I decided to apply for a Pastry Certification at Saint Paul College and just let time tell and see what God really had planned for me. By the end of the year I was amazed at how much stuff had happened, I had finally designed my logo and I had new goals for the future of my small business. In 2021 I started my french macaron journey, after around 100 batches I was finally was able to ‘successfully’ bake macrons. I was still in school and I was interning at our local bakeries, I would start my shift from 4am - 12pm you’d think I would take a nap afterwards but I actually continued to bake macarons, most of the times I had to let my mom bake them as my classes started at 2pm to 8:30pm and I would bake more macarons afterwords, it was probably the craziest month of my life. Spring was here, I had finally worked with cakes and I made my first Wedding cake and learned so many skills. That same year I worked at summer camp (Many Point Scout Camp) I learned so much, from mass producing to being a leader in the kitchen. It was a summer to remember.
I graduated from Pastry school and I had a whole new perspective in the future of my business. I started to learn more about marketing/working to efficiently use my social media platforms. I began to play around with my phone camera and learn more about photography, slowly my social media platforms improved which created a huge impact in my business. What once was a hobby, was now becoming a large part of my business and daily life. I am a Christian Catholic and Churches/Cathedrals have always fascinated me and I continued to use my love for phone photography by taking pictures at my local church (Our Lady of Guadalupe Diocesan Shrine in the West Side. In December 2021, we were celebrating the Feast of Our lady of Guadalupe and right before the church was full of parishioners, I decided to get a close up of Our Lady and posted on my personal social media platforms and received many comments. In early 2022, that same picture had become the cover of the Capital Campaign for Our Lady of Guadalupe Diocesan Shrine, I was speechless and amazed. I now voluntarily manage the social media platforms of OLG, and while at it I am intensively growing my faith which is very important for me. My long time dream has been to own a Website, one of my younger brothers (Luis Fernando Saldivar) secretly started to play around with website builders, for a couple months he kept it a secret from me, he began to question me about how my business initiated and my goals for for the future of K’Cupcakes. After a couple months he showed me everything he had been working on and I was so grateful and amazed, we began working side by side until we were ready to publish. We are incredibly exited to show you what we’ve been working on!
